GAEILGE:
We created a digital photo story called Oíche Shamhna. We drew a Halloween picture, coloured it in and labelled everything in Irish. We learned a Halloween poem in Irish out of our Sin É 5 book. We also did a crossword together in our class. Everyone read a sentence in Irish for the photostory and we chose the music for it ourselves.

MATHS:
Last week we played a loop game to see how good our tables were. On Monday our time was 2 minutes and 25 seconds and by Friday we were 11 seconds faster and we got much better. We also used Tangrams – a Chinese puzzles made up of seven shapes. We had to make lots of different pictures using all seven shapes. Our class also made a game called ‘Top Shapes’. It was lots of fun.

By using our time tables we made Digit Sum Spirals. We had to fill in a grid in our copies and find a hidden sequence. Using the sequence and following directions we created a spiral – they came out really nice. Each table did a different times table.

ART:
We made mummy bags using paper, string and toilet roll.

We also created Tangram art – we made dogs, swans, fish, cats, people, houses, animals, birds and candles.

GEOGRAPHY:
We made our own map on the board and learned how to use a key and read a map using a grid.
HISTORY:
We learned about the history of Halloween. Did you know Halloween came from Ireland? It came from the Celts over 2000 years ago. The Celts had a feast called Samhain which means November. We did a cross word in groups and we had to go around the room to look for the answers. We have also started to learn about farming. There are lots of different kids of farms including: Dairy, Beef, Sheep, Tillage and Mixed.
ENGLISH:
Last week we learned about recipes. We wrote our own smoothie recipes – we had to decide what ingredients to use and write out the method. We made a smoothie on Friday – we used apples, bananas, strawberry yoghurt, milk and orange juice. 17 girls liked it but 10 didn’t.

P.E.:
We learned to dance to Thriller by Michael Jackson. We did athletics too – sprinting, running and relay races. We did lots of exercises and played the Bean game. We all had so much fun.
MUSIC:
Over the past two weeks we have learned four songs on the Tin Whistle –BB Blues, Glory B, Jazzamatazz and EBGBs. We also played a game called Don’t Clap This Rhythm Back, listened and responded to scary music and learned the song Thriller.

RELIGION:
In Religion we learned about Bono, he is an example of a modern-day prophet. A prophet is someone who works in the name of God. We also learned to song Críost Liom in two groups.
